Justin Madden suggested Geelong should focus on becoming a “City of Wellbeing” at a special lecture hosted by the School of Architecture and Built Environment on Friday 30 November.  Justin who is currently a Senior Consultant at ARUP and has also had many notable positions in State Parliament including Minister for Planning explored  “Geelong’s brilliant future: opportunity and empathy”.

Justin discussed how as Geelong moves from a City heavy reliant on traditional industries to a Knowledge City providing associated services….. where are the greatest opportunities and the biggest points of difference are that will make Geelong unique and a place of enhanced wellbeing.

Among the special guests was Deakin’s Vice Chancellor Professor Jane den Hollander who also shared her thoughts about Geelong’s past and future, maintaining that Geelong’s community approach was and will be a large factor in its revival.

The lecture underscored Deakin as part of the UNESCO City of Design and launched the School’s newest Professor of Integral Design, Tuba Kocaturk who gave an introduction to her MInD (Mediated Intelligence in Design) Lab.
