Following a successful 2023 of 110+ student-staff pairings, expressions of interest are now open for the first round of Students Mentoring Staff in Trimester 1, beginning in March 2024.

Are you a staff member wishing you knew more about what life as a student is really like? Are you a student looking to share your experiences with the University in a meaningful way? Register your name now.

The Students Mentoring Staff program matches Deakin students with a disability, medical, or mental health condition to a staff member at Deakin University in a 1:1 relationship. The program is an opportunity for staff members to be mentored by students on the many facets of the student experience. For student mentors, it is an opportunity to be heard and help provide feedback or guidance on how their staff mentee can better support equity-students.

Key points

  • 3 x 1-hour meetings, held on Zoom.
  • Meetings are organised privately between matches.
  • All students are paid $50 in gift card for each meeting ($150 in total).

Who should apply?

The Office of the Dean of Students is committed to improving the student experience for students with a disability, medical or mental health condition.

We invite all Deakin staff members to express interest and encourage all Area or Faculty leaders to circulate this opportunity with their wider Deakin network.

At this stage of the program, only equity-students who are registered with Deakin’s Disability Resource Centre (I.e. students with a disability, medical or mental health condition) can participate.

If you are not a student registered with the DRC, we strongly you encourage you to be involved in other students as partners programs
