Deakin Women in Philosophy network – invitation

DEAKIN WOMEN IN PHILOSOPHY NETWORK

A semi-formal network for women in philosophy at Deakin is being set up via Facebook. Its aim and scope is as follows: “This is a group for women at Deakin University who love philosophy and would like to join with other women to enjoy discussions, talks and philosophy-related events. Here ‘women’ is defined as anyone who identifies as a woman for purposes of daily living.”

If you’re interested in joining, the link is here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1589166327934421  This is a private Facebook group. In order to join, you’ll need to be approved and also answer a question. (“Which female philosopher would you like to learn more about?”) Once people sign up to the network, we can discuss which kinds of discussions and events people would most enjoy.

I’m aware that women are by no means the only ‘minority’ in Australian philosophy. (Women are of course not a minority in Australia, demographically speaking, however we are a minority in academic philosophy, where the proportion of women at Full Professor – the highest academic rank – is currently ~13%). Anyway, this is the minority that I belong to, and that’s why I’m organising this group. If any members of other minorities in philosophy reading this would like to organise a similar network here at Deakin, feel free to email me. I’d be happy to contribute advice and tips on securing resources
