Deakin Brand Toolkit and Style Guide update

With the finalisation of Deakin’s new strategic direction, Deakin 2030: Ideas to Impact we have taken the opportunity to review and revise our brand strategy. This has resulted in a more cohesive strategy that considers our key university areas of ‘Research and Innovation’ and ‘Education and Employability’. At the same time, with the aim of providing greater flexibility for users of Deakin’s master brand identity, we have incorporated some optimisations and updated our Visual Style Guide. The optimisations include updates to some of the RGB colours and colour accessibility, logo placement options and extended shape use design rules.

How the changes impact you

The updates to our Brand Strategy are minor and should not significantly impact any existing work. However, if you utilise the Deakin templates within the capacity of your role, it is important to understand these changes by taking the time to review the updated documents.

In relation to our Visual Style Guide, the only change impacting any current artwork is with regards to the digital (RGB) block colours turquoise and orange, which have been updated to be brighter and more closely aligned with the print (CMYK) colour palette. Other optimisations to the Visual Style Guide are enhancements that allow for additional options for brand use.

There is no need for you to immediately update any documents and files you currently have until they are out of date, or are being revised. Anything newly developed should be done so using the new templates on Assetbank or created using the updated colour palette.

Style Guide Hub

The Visual Style Guide has been updated, and has also received a layout rework to provide an easier to navigate setup. The Visual Style Guide can be found on the Style Guide Hub within Asset Bank. These pages are available for all staff to access.

Templates

We have updated and developed brand new templates for all staff to use. These cover new and updated Microsoft Word templates, new Microsoft Powerpoint presentation templates and new and updated Adobe InDesign templates. The Microsoft templates have been developed for the latest versions of Office, and Office365.

The new Microsoft templates have been developed with current best practice accessibility requirements in mind, and include information for users on how to ensure their files continue to meet these.

All active Outfit templates have received relevant colour updates to reflect the revised RGB colour palette, some new templates have been developed, with more to appear in the system over the coming weeks.
