A/Prof Maurizio Meloni has attended on April 1st the Human Biology Association Awards Ceremony 2021 where he receive the Inaugural Book prize for his Political Biology (2016).

A/Prof Maurizio Meloni has co-authored an article in the Anthropocene Review: Bodies of the Anthropocene: On the interactive plasticity of earth systems and biological organisms.

A/Prof Chengxin Pan recently published an article in Critical Studies on Security: Racialised Politics of (In)Security and the COVID-19 Westfailure.

A/Prof Chengxin Pan presented a paper at the International Studies Association Annual Convention on 6 April. His paper is titled ‘Reclaiming Substances in Relationalism: Quantum Holography and Substance-Relation Duality in Global Politics’.

Dr Victoria Stead has had an article published in the Journal of Royal Anthropological Institute (JRAI), drawing on her DECRA research on race and labour relations: Precarity’s reach: intersections of history, life, and labour in the Australian horticultural industry.

Dr Victoria Stead co-convened the Australian Association for Pacific Studies (AAPS) Postgraduate and Early Career Researchers’ Symposium, on 8-9th April. The event was held in a blended format, with in-person hubs at the Footscray Community Arts Centre, Melbourne, and University of Waikato, as well as an online mode. The symposium brought together emerging Pacific studies scholars, with very strong representation from Pasifika, Māori, South Sea Islander and Aboriginal scholars, in dialogue around the theme “Decolonisation and the Trans-Pacific”.  

Prof Ihsan Yilmaz and Raja M. Ali Saleem have published a semi-academic journal article, A Quest for Identity: The Case of Religious Populism in Pakistan in Populism & Politics published by the think tank European Center for Populism Studies (ECPS) (Brussels) at which Prof Yilmaz is a Non-Resident Senior Scholar.

Prof Ihsan Yilmaz and Kainat Shakil published a populist leader profile for ECPS (Brussels): Imran Khan: From Cricket Batsman to Populist Captain Tabdeli of Pakistan, European Center for Populism Studies.

Prof Ihsan Yilmaz and Kainat Shakil published also a populist party profile for ECPS (Brussels): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf: Pakistan’s Iconic Populist Movement, European Center for Populism Studies.

Dr Zahid Ahmed spoke to the University of Melbourne’s Ear to Asia podcast on ‘Pakistan, the Taliban, and the future of Afghanistan.

Dr Zahid Ahmed presented on Pakistan’s relations with Uzbekistan in a webinar organized by Strategic Vision Institute of Pakistan on 9 April 2021.

Dr Mary Iliadis has accepted the role as Associate Editor for the newly established journal: Society & Social Change. This Journal will advance interdisciplinary research in the field of law, gender and sexuality, and is the official journal of the Law, Gender and Sexuality Network, for which Mary Iliadis participates in as a member of the international steering committee.
