A/Professor Maurizio Meloni has presented remotely on Developmental Biology meets Political Economy: Plasticity and Intervention in Postgenomc Times (paper written with Dr Tessa Moll) at the Chronic Living Conference, Copenhagen Denmark on 4 March 2021.

Dr Victoria Stead, Dr Rose Butler, Dr Chris Mayes and Dr Magdalena Arias Cubas have had a proposal accepted for a special issue of the Journal of Rural Studies. Entitled “Race and Place-Making in the Rural Global North”, the special issue will focus attention on race as a constituting dynamic within the Global North rurality, including in the contemporary context of intensified populist politics and environmental crisis. A series of papers, from globally-situated scholars, will be workshopped through August. New ADI staff member Dr Laura Rodriguez-Castro, and ADI PhD candidate Lorayma Taula, are also participating as presenters and authors.

Dr Rose Butler had a co-authored paper with Dr Eve Vincent (Macquarie University), presented by Eve, at the International Australian Studies Association (InASA) Biennial Conference. The paper, “Desire, difference and definitions: researching love across class”, drew on their recently completed pilot interviews from a study researching class and intimacy in contemporary Australia.

On 12 March 2021, Dr Zahid Ahmed presented on ‘Islam and pan-Islamism in Pakistan’s foreign policy’ at a webinar organised by Centre for Muslim States and Societies at the University of Western Australia.

A/Prof Maurizio Meloni and Dr Tessa Moll have published with Chris Kuzawa (Northwestern University, Illinois) “Developmental Plasticity, Epigenetics, and Race: Historical Lessons and Contemporary Considerations” (WP-21-17) at the Northwestern University Institute for Policy Research Working papers series.
