Purpose
The REDI Education Governance and Policy (EGP) research group is holding a series of monthly seminars to share the work of researchers working in this field. The EGP seminar program seeks to provide insights into leading research in the field of education policy and governance in schools, VET, higher and international education. Seminars will be organised by Professor Jill Blackmore and Dr Ben Arnold. With the exception of the first seminar, they will take place on the first Wednesday of each month between 2.00 pm—3.00 pm.
Seminar 1: Alfred Deakin Professor Jill Blackmore AM
In our first seminar, Jill, will present her program of research under the title of Why does it matter?
Jill will share her research background, provide an overview her latest projects, outline the theories and methodologies that inform her work and consider what the future holds for research in field. The presentation will last for 45 minutes and will be followed by questions. This will provide opportunities for discussions between established researchers, Early Career Researchers and HDR students about the major issues in the field and future research possibilities.

Researcher Profile
Jill Blackmore has 35 years of teaching and research experience, is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences Australia and inaugural Director of the Deakin Strategic Centre for Research in Educational Futures and Innovation. Jill is on the editorial board of 12 international journals, past President of the Australian Association of Research in Education, editor of the Australian Education Researcher for 13 years, and has presented over 100 keynotes to principals, teachers and parents and to executive and academic leadership groups in universities.
Jill uses feminist epistemologies and methodologies with a focus on social justice to focus on:
- globalisation, education policy and governance
- international and intercultural education
- education restructuring, leadership and organisational change
- spatial redesign and innovative pedagogies
- teachers’ and academics’ work
- credentialism and graduate employability
