Earth Unbound Collective: 25th February meeting, 1.45pm

Dear friends

The Earth Unbound Collective  of activists and scholars from multiple organisations, disciplines and perspectives come together to read, learn, write, discuss/debate issues and engage in ‘noisy’ as well as ‘quiet’ events of activism related to climate (in)justice. We draw on Indigenous, southern, eastern, young, Black, feminist, spiritual and religious thinking/action expressed in blockades, land and environmental defender actions, mass protests and strikes, digital activism, as well as more ‘everyday’ activisms.

Key themes that emerged from the collective to date include: Response-ability, Environmental racism; Violence/Nonviolence; Youth cultures; Indigenous Resurgence; Solidarity and the role of allies and accomplices; Eco-theologies; Eco-logical justice; and, Multispecies justice.

In 2021, we aim to collectively  identify activists who will be invited to present (30-40 minutes) and open up discussions each month, host a symposium in November 2021, and publish an open access edited book based on the key themes that surface in our monthly dialogues.

In preparation for the February meeting , Thursday 25th February , 1.45-3pm.

  1. Please read these two thought-provoking articles if you have time:

Wretched of the Earth (2 May 2019). An Open Letter to Extinction Rebellion. Red Pepper. https://www.redpepper.org.uk/an-open-letter-to-extinction-rebellion/

Wilkinson C, and Clement S (2021) Geographers declare (a climate emergency)? Australian Geographer, 1-18.  https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.1080/00049182.2020.1866278

  1. Identify additional themes and give some thought to speakers who you think would be able to present at one of our monthly collective dialogues.

Remember – as a collective, we all contribute as much or as little as we like, there is no pressure at all, but the more we contribute, the more we learn and the more fun we have!
