Australian Institute of Criminology: Criminology Research Grant

Dr Mary Iliadis and Dr Danielle Tyson have been awarded a Criminology Research Grant with colleagues from Monash University (Assoc. Prof. Asher Flynn and Dr Zarina Vakhitova) and QUT (Dr Bridget Harris) for a project titled ‘Police body-worn camera technology in response to domestic and family violence: a national study of victim-survivor perspectives and experiences‘.

This project will be the first study internationally to examine the merits and unintended consequences of police body-worn camera technology in response to domestic and family violence incidents from the perspective of victim-survivors. The research will generate empirical research on the use, efficacy, perceived benefits and risks of police body-worn camera footage in response to family violence in Australia, including its evidentiary use in court proceedings and State responses, for example, in DFV, Child Protection, and family law matters.
