Koorie Heritage Trust, Whats on in December

THE KOORIE HERITAGE TRUST IS RE-OPENING

WHEN: MONDAY, 7 DECEMBER 2020

WELCOME | WOMINJEKA to all our friends and supporters to our December edition of our monthly What’s On e-newsletter.

We are pleased to finally announce the re-opening of our doors to the public after 8 long months of closure. We sincerely hope that from Monday, 7 December 2020, you will be able to visit us in person, and we will be able to once again connect and reconnect with our many friends and supporters. In our first week, we will be open Monday-Friday, closed on the weekend.

As we enter into what is traditionally the festive season, a time for family and celebration, we, as a community, have a lot to reflect on and be thankful for. We wish to particularly acknowledge all members of our community, especially members of our Victorian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities whose lives have been touched and impacted by the COVID virus.

On re-opening, we are pleased to present the 8th Koorie Art Show as our first on site exhibition. Despite restrictions imposed by COVID, we acknowledge and thank all of our many Victorian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists who have submitted works for the exhibition. All works are eligible for a number of awards generously sponsored by Creative Victoria, the Metro Tunnel Creative Program, Viva Energy Australia, and the City of Melbourne. We also acknowledge entries to the 3rd Koorie Art Show for kids and youth. This year, we have received an unprecedented number of entries from our up and coming young artists.

The launch of our Koorie Art Show and Koorie Art Show for kids and youth will take place online this year. Please join us on Saturday 5 December for the online launch and announcement of Award recipients.

Following the Koorie Art Show, we also invite you to join us online for our annual Koorie Krismas celebrations on 12 December 2020. Our virtual Koorie Krismas will include performances by the Djirri Djirri Dances, The Merindas, Bumpy and Aaron B, as well as a virtual art market offering a range of authentic First Nation products that will make ideal and unique Christmas gifts.

While we look forward to welcoming you back to the KHT, based on the Victorian Chief Health Officer’s guidelines, we will have in place a range of public health safety measures to protect all visitors. This means we can only accomodate 20 visitors at any one time in our building. All visitors will also be required to provide us with their details for contact tracing purposes, and to adhere to the 1.5m social distancing guideline when in our public spaces.

As 2020 draws to a close, we wish you all a very merry and safe Christmas and we look forward to sharing a new and exciting year in 2021.

Thank you for your ongoing support, and we look forward to seeing you when we re-open.
