  • The Brookes Cultural Heritage Scholarship will enable a promising PhD candidate to undertake a higher degree by research as part of our Cultural Heritage and Museum Studies program.
  • This generous scholarship combines Roger’s passion for philanthropy and his love of history and collecting antiques. It also cements his position as an important figure in Deakin University’s history and our future.

Mary MacKillop Today First Nations Scholarship Program

  • $105,000 donation
  • Key objective: To provide scholarships to First Nations students studying at Deakin University
  • Preamble: Mary MacKillop believed in the power of education to transform lives. In her legacy the Sisters of Saint Joseph have continued to empower individuals and communities by providing access to education. Since 1998 tertiary scholarships for the First Nation Peoples of the lands in which we live have addressed the financial barriers faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and supported them to access and achieve their academic goals.

Deakin students have been in receipt of this scholarship program for a number of years. This agreement looks to strengthen the relationship with Deakin University and Mary MacKillop today, in turn providing additional support for Deakin students. Based on this, both Mary MacKillop Today and Deakin University agree that the joint activity will lead to the furthering of our respective missions and strategic objectives, and seeks to improve the economic, social, political and physical wellbeing of those affected by financial hardship, vulnerability and exclusion through life-long learning. We believe this approach leads to the building of strong relationships which transcend the merely transactional and provides the opportunity for mutual learning and long-term collaboration.

  • Mary MacKillop Today will support 7 students (commencing T12021) for the duration of their course, providing $5,000 per year per student (to the value of $15,000 over normal course duration, typically 3 years).

Additional students will be discussed and approved by Mary MacKillop Today on an annual basis and depend on available funding.
