Eve Mayes, Ros Black and Rachel Finneran Publish New Article on Student Voice

Alfred Deakin Postdoctoral Research Fellow Eve Mayes, Dr Ros Black and PhD candidate Rachel Finneran have just published their latest article, which takes a critical look at student voice in schools and the extent to which it gives young people genuine access to democratic processes: The possibilities and problematics of student voice for teacher professional learning: lessons from an evaluation study has been published in the Cambridge Journal of Education. Steven Lewis Publishes New Article on Policy Mobilities

Dr Steven Lewis has just had his latest article published in the Critical Studies in Education journal. Titled The turn towards policy mobilities and the theoretical-methodological implications for policy sociology, this paper “reflects critically upon how the ‘mobilities turn’ in the social sciences, and its subsequent contribution towards ‘policy mobilities’, offers theoretical and methodological resources that can be usefully harnessed in education policy sociology”.

New Ways of Understanding Digital Data

Alfred Deakin Postdoctoral Research Fellow Dr Luci Pangrazio has launched a new website as part of her two-year research project, which will investigate new methodologies for mapping digital data for research and educational purposes.

Digital data is now an integral driver of an individual’s professional, social and economic futures. While there are increasing calls for improving data education – often as a form of ‘data literacy’ – responses have been limited by the difficulty of materialising data as a ‘text’ for analysis. Using creative software design, the outcome of this project will produce new methodologies to visualise and map data. Benefits will include theoretical innovation in conceptualising digital data leading to new methodologies and opportunities for critical data education.
