Celebrating First Nations Cultures

Whilst the official National NAIDOC Week has been moved to November, Deakin will celebrate the original dates with the following events:

Webinar: New Indigenous Studies Units at Deakin
Presenters: Jessamy Gleeson and Rebecca Gerrett-Magee
In the second half of this year there will be two new units available to all undergraduate students at Deakin:IND102 – Aboriginal Australian Stories and Songlines; and IND301 – Politics of Resistance in Indigenous Australia.

Connecting to Country through Art: Collaborative Live Painting Experience
Artists: NIKERI Staff Kiri Wicks and Dr Jenny Murray-Jones
Join on Zoom to contribute your story to build a collaborative artwork through the hands of our featured artists. Starting with topographical map lines, shared conversations about Country and identity are woven into a large scale, abstract artwork – painted in real time.
All are welcome to drop in and out of the durational session. This artwork depends on your collaboration.When: Thursday 9th July 2020, 10am-5pm
