Message from Christine- NIKERI Institute launch

Dear Colleagues

Please join me in wishing staff in the former IKE a wonderful week of celebration as they rebrand under the title of the National Indigenous Knowledges Education Research and Innovation (NIKERI) Institute.  This transition recognises 33 years of continuous service to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students through Community Based Delivery model and builds on the high standard of excellence that saw the Institute achieve national recognition as ‘Education Institute of the Year’ in the Dreamtime Awards, 2019.  The new NIKERI reflects a broader scope of teaching, learning, research and innovation that will see Indigenous Knowledge included as a field of study and research in Higher Education.

This week’s launch is an opportunity to thank Gabby Fletcher and staff in NIKERI for the leadership and vision they have shown in positioning the new Institute.  We look forward to working with you all to learn more about Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ knowledges, and with you and community leaders, extend this into our teaching and research.

regards

Christine
