Book launch (IKE) – Tarquam McKenna

The Institute of Koorie Education recently celebrated the launch of a ground-breaking new book edited by Tarquam McKenna, Professor of Indigenous Knowledges (Research). On Saturday 2nd February, he was joined by co-editors Dr Andrea Gilroy, Associate Professor Sheridan Linnell and Dr Jill Westwood in celebrating the release of Art Therapy in Australia: Taking a Postcolonial, Aesthetic Turn.

The editors gave a presentation and Q&A surrounding the convergence of the discipline of art therapy with art making as a traditional practice in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. Following the talk, guests were invited to participate in an art making session hosted in IKE’s Boon Wurrung art studio. Overall the evening was a celebration of learning and connection, and produced engaging and thought-provoking discussion.
