 Who: All interested Deakin staff and HDR students are invited. RSVPs essential.

 We are delighted to invite Deakin staff and students to join us for an exciting day to discuss gender and sexuality studies at Deakin.

With the recent funding of the GSS Research Network, and the launch in 2018 of Deakin’s new Major in Gender and Sexuality Studies (http://www.deakin.edu.au/gender-and-sexuality-studies), this symposium will be an important opportunity to get together with others at Deakin who conduct research relating to sex, gender and sexuality and who share an interest in gender and sexuality studies more generally.

Designed specifically to help us learn more about each other’s work, and to help foster scholarly connections, this symposium will be of particular interest to HDR students, ECR academic staff and academic staff interested in building connections with other GSS researchers across the university.

Throughout the day, discussions will cover a variety of topics, including:

  • Histories of doing gender and sexuality studies;
  • Current research in gender and sexuality studies at Deakin;
  • Perspectives on successfully doing HDR work in gender and sexuality studies;
  • Potential opportunities for collaboration and mentoring;
  • Building lives/careers doing gender and sexuality studies; and
  • Ideas for shaping the GSS Research Network at Deakin.

The symposium will run all day and conclude with drinks/refreshments and some remarks by Professor Brenda Cherednichenko, the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Education.

This Symposium is supported by funding from the Faculty of Arts and Education, SCCA and DMLCCAR.

This is a free event. RSVPs essential.  Places are limited. Please RSVP by 31 October to [email protected].  In your RSVP, please include any access and dietary requirements.

Please get in touch if you have any questions.
