Exciting news: Alfred Deakin Prime Ministerial (Special Collections) Library is reopening its doors

We have some fantastic news to share with all the library enthusiasts out there! The Alfred Deakin Prime Ministerial (Special Collections) Library – also known as ADPML – is preparing to reopen its doors to the public. Mark your calendars for Tuesday 11 July, as that’s the day when we’ll once again welcome visitors eager to explore the treasures within our library.

Our Special Collections have always been a source of pride for us. These collections consist of research items that require special care and attention. Among them, you’ll find a wealth of historic, rare, and delicate items that hold immense value both as physical objects and for academic research. The library’s scope is vast, covering a wide range of subjects including architecture, education, Pacific missionaries, Papua New Guinea, 19th-century travel, natural history, scientific expeditions, nutrition, cookery, and the role of women in the home.

Are you interested in delving into your family history? Look no further! The Special Collections Library provides invaluable resources for genealogical research. Whether you’re a seasoned genealogist or just starting out, we have an array of online tools, published books, and microfilmed resources at your disposal. These resources can all be accessed in our public reading room, where you’ll find a collection of indexes on CD-ROM and a vast range of microfilmed newspapers. Additionally, our reading room houses a reference collection dedicated to Australian history and genealogy materials. A visit to our library is an absolute must for anyone interested in tracing their family roots! ADPML also has a reading room, a great spot to start exploring the items you’ve discovered in our collection.

We’re eagerly looking forward to opening our doors on 11 July and welcoming visitors back to the Alfred Deakin Prime Ministerial (Special Collections) Library – we’ll be open on Tuesdays from 10am–4pm. For those who are unable to make it to the campus on a Tuesday, our Special Collections Librarian will continue to arrange appointments. To plan your visit and learn more about our library’s offerings, please visit our website.

Get ready to immerse yourself in a world of knowledge and discovery. See you soon at the Alfred Deakin Prime Ministerial (Special Collections) Library!
