ITOT survey
Dear transplant professionals,
With the support of the Asian Society of Transplantation, the Declaration of Istanbul Custodian Group, the European Society of Organ Transplantation, the International Pediatric Transplant Association, the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation, the International Society of Nephrology, the International Society for Organ Donation and Procurement, la Sociedad de Trasplante de América Latina y el Caribe, and The Transplantation Society, we are conducting an anonymous online survey of transplant professionals.
The survey aims to find out about professionals’ recent experiences, or lack of experience, in providing care for patients who have travelled to or from their country for organ donation or transplantation. The survey is focused on international travel for organ transplantation (ITOT) in general, not only travel that might involve transplant “tourism”.
Even if you have no experience in providing care for patients who have traveled for donation or transplantation, we would really appreciate your participation in the study. We welcome participation by all health professionals who provide care to organ donors or recipients .
Please read the Participant Information Sheet which can be downloaded in English, French, Mandarin or Spanish. This explains more about the study and what participation involves.

We hope you will share this information with your professional colleagues and networks. Please contact the research team as outlined in the Participant Information Sheet if you have any questions about the study. The survey opens on 15 September 204, and will close on December 15, 2024. No extensions will be made.
We thank you for your assistance in sharing news of this study with all your colleagues who provide care to organ donors and transplant recipients.

In 2022, with the support of the Declaration of Istanbul Custodian Group, the International Society of Nephrology, and The Transplantation Society, we conducted an international pilot survey of transplant professionals, exploring their experiences of ITOT and attitudes towards collection and reporting of ITOT data. This work informed the current 2024 ITOT survey study.
You can read about the results of this pilot study in our open access paper published in Transplantation Direct.
