For many sex workers, police services have never been assumed to be a resource. Rather, they have been agents of surveillance and control, particularly in settings where sex work is criminalized.

Drawing from comparative research undertaken in Australia and New Zealand (which decriminalized sex work in 2003), with a focus on trans and non-binary workers, this seminar will explore the impacts of laws and regulations on worker safety as well as examining the various tactics engaed by workers in order to ensure their safety and security in the workplace. In so doing, this seminar will explore some of the various ways in which individuals and communities develop safety practices.
