“Falling for Sahara” Film Screening

Filmed in or near the Flemington Housing Estate, this movie looks at the challenges Somali and Sudanese young people and their families face in Australia, and the role of sport. The movie’s tag-line, “A film about love, rivalry, inclusion and football” sums it up!

The evening will include speakers from the Sudanese and Somali communities including young people, youth mentors, local VicPol members, and Bill Hutchison Foundation representatives talking about being a refugee, racism, media stereotyping, Islamophobia, gender and cultural traditions.

There will be time for questions and refreshments. Information provided by Deakin University PhD alumni Dr Georgia Birch, now Co-Coordinator of the African Liaison Program at the Bill Hutchison Foundation.
