Accommodation options

Accommodation options

Maybe you already live close to your Deakin campus so you can easily attend your classes. But maybe you live further away, so you will need to decide where you are going to live while you’re studying. It’s important to give yourself enough time to consider your accommodation options and plan ahead so you’ve made arrangements well before the study period commences. You should consider:

  • your budget and how you are going to pay for your accommodation (some residences might require an up-front, lump-sum payment to secure your spot)
  • the style of accommodation you’d prefer (large, dormitory-style with shared communal spaces vs. a smaller share house)
  • how often you’ll need to come to campus (every day vs. once a week)
  • the transport available to you (do you have a car or would other transport be better suited to your lifestyle and budget).

On campus

Deakin has on-campus accommodation, Deakin Res, available at all four of our campuses. Living on campus gives you the opportunity to immerse yourself in life at Deakin and live in close proximity (walking distance!) to our wonderful range of facilities, support services and extracurricular activities. Deakin Res also offers students a safe, close-knit community and a home away from home. Applying to Deakin Res is free, so if you’re interested it’s a good idea to do this sooner rather than later.

Off campus

If you’d prefer to live off campus, we have a dedicated website and team to help you find local accommodation. Our online accommodation finder, Houseme, is a great place to start: you can search for private rentals and rooms close to all our campuses. You can then access resources to get help with your rental application, as well as read information about your rights and responsibilities.

Short-stay options

Deakin also offers short-stay accommodation in fully furnished, self-contained rooms, on or close to campus. This is an option for you if you occasionally need to come to campus for intensives, placements or exams.
