UPDATE – Introduction to NVivo workshop on Monday 18 June

This introductory workshop takes place on Monday 18 June from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm. Attendees will need to ensure they have NVivo 11 downloaded to their profile from the Deakin Software Catalogue before they commence the workshop – further information will be provided to attendees closer to the date of the workshop. 

A light morning tea and lunch will be provided.

IMPORTANT: HDR attendees who do not attend on the day, without good reason, will be charged $250 per day against their HDR Student Support scheme funds.  

Contents: Analysis using NVivo

This course provides a bridge between understanding NVivo software and how it can be used to enhance and support the analysis of your research. You will be guided through the basic features of NVivo, such as importing different types of data, and ways of coding and organising your data. You will be provided with time to reflect and work with your own data, to see how it you can use it and apply it to your own research.

By the end if this workshop, you will be able to import any type of data into NVivo, and code it based on your own research questions and methodology. This course covers:

  • Importing a variety of data types in NVivo (Word, Pdf’s, Survey data, Pictures, Audio files, video files and web content)
  • Different ways of organising this material to best suit your research.
  • Ways to code this data using the software.
  • Reflection on your own data, coding tips and ideas that best suits your own research projects.
  • Ways you can classify your data to help you discover patterns and relationships based on your research topic.

There will be plenty of time for you to work with your own data, and reflect on what NVivo tools will be best for your own project.

Dr Anuja Cabraal

Dr Anuja Cabraal has over 14 year’s research experience across a number of sectors including government, university, industry and not-for-profit. She had received a number of research awards and grants since completing her PhD in 2011.

Dr Cabraal is an authorised trainer of NVivo, a qualitative research software program, and runs workshops and training in NVivo, research methods and methodology. She provides on-one consultancy in research, methodology and NVivo.
