Welcome

At the Bilby Community Culture Council, we work for inclusion and diversity in our community.
Bilby Community Centre

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, at 31 October 2023, 29.5% of Australia’s estimated resident population (ERP) (7.7 million people) was born overseas. Bilby now has many layers of cultural diversity and a community at the point of great change. Within that context, BCCC aims to:

  • develop and promote an outstanding high quality culturally diverse community program of events and opportunities for discussion and collaboration;
  • provide vital connections, support structures and pathways that enable culturally diverse individuals and communities to work together;
  • engage in vibrant partnerships and cultural brokerages that engage, link, and connect with culturally diverse community members that creates systemic change in the community; and
  • play a critical advocacy role in providing a forum, through diverse cultures, to ensure acceptance and understanding of cultural diversity.

The BCCC acknowledges that Indigenous Australians are the first people of this land. We pay our respects to all Indigenous people, past and present, and we recognise their continuing spiritual and cultural connection to the land.

The BCCC embraces the principles of reconciliation and has a strong commitment to respect Indigenous beliefs, values and customs as we learn from each other and build a future together.

The BCCC values cultural diversity as a necessary and integral aspect of Australia’s social and cultural fabric and believes that diverse cultural traditions form the building blocks of innovative and exciting new creative developments and programs. Long-term growth and development is found in societies that value and respect their cultural diversity.
