Wheeler Centre – Next Chapter

The Next Chapter elevates the Australian stories that aren’t being published – and nurtures a new wave of writers to tell them.

Each year, The Next Chapter selects a group of writers providing each of them with a stipend of $15,000 and a handpicked mentor to work closely with them on bringing their writing to life, connecting them with peers, publishers and readers. Participants also receive the opportunity to attend a residency at Varuna, The Writer’s House in Katoomba, NSW.

The Wheeler Centre is thrilled to receive funding from Australia Council for the Arts to support the continuation of The Next Chapter. Within the remit of this funding, The Next Chapter will offer placements to four writers in 2024. The Wheeler Centre is investigating further avenues for funding and welcomes expressions of interest for those wishing to support additional writers in the scheme.
