Jodi McAlister – April Events – Supanova & The Wheeler Centre

Author and Deakin lecturer Jodi McAlister is a guest at the upcoming Supanova pop culture conference. She’ll be speaking on panels, meeting fans and signing books at both the Melbourne  (5–7 April) and  Gold Coast (12–14 April) events. No doubt she’ll have her camera at the ready, too: rumour has it that one Melbourne attendee plans to cosplay (dress up) as Pearl, the lead female character from Jodi’s paranormal YA Valentine series. In between her Supanova appearances, Jodi will also be part of a Wheeler Centre Event, ‘Heart and Soul: Australian Romance Writing’, on Wednesday 10 April. She’ll be discussing the genre’s enduring appeal and addressing some knotty questions, alongside fellow romance scribes C.S. Pacat Jenna Guillaume, Angelita  Biscotti Anne Gracie and Minnie Darke: what are the reactionary conventions of romance, and what are its more subversive elements? What do stolen kisses, ripped bodices and father figures mean today? What’s changing, what’s here to stay, and what sets the 21st-century woman’s heart aflutter? Free event. Bookings >
