My research focuses on femininity, girlhood and postfeminism in contemporary texts for young people. I’m passionate about the role texts have in the lives of young women and how they understand gender and feminism. I am interested in all things feminism, literature, digital media, pop culture, veganism, music, and social politics.

Emma has a book under contract, based on her doctoral dissertation at Deakin, titled: Postfeminist Identities in Contemporary Fairy-Tale Adaptations for Young People. This is planned for publication soon with Wayne State University Press in their Fairy-Tale Studies series. 

Emma was an Alfred Deakin Medal for Doctoral Thesis winner in 2020, and reflects here on her experience of completing her PhD.
