Why would you volunteer at 3BBR?
- Be an independent programmer, providing alternative news, analysis, debate and music
- Be involved in an activist community
- Meet like-minded people
- Be part of the diversification of media in our rural area
- Play a decision-making role in an alternative media outlet
- Learn skills in mixing, programming, dealing with a team of people, managing your time
Do you want to volunteer?
If yes, here are a few important points to consider:
- 3BBR is here to facilitate community activism in an independent medium. Volunteers need to agree with our general philosophy.
- You need to listen to 3BBR, and work out ideas for a new program, not more of the same.
- Almost all 3BBR programmers are volunteers. There is a Volunteer Coordinator who organises both off-air volunteers and station programming volunteers. You can propose a new program to this coordinator — contact initially through Shelley Varcos, our Station Coordinator.
- All new programmers, including those joining existing programs, need to complete a Panel Operation and general programming course at the station.
- All programmers and volunteers need to be current subscribers.
What can a volunteer do?
- Archive (audio archiving) and filing — our files are getting very dusty!
- Maintenance — the railway station always needs repairs!
- Fundraising (events, ideas and financial consulting) and promotions (publicity, marketing, stalls, merchandise, design)
- Gardening (we have a small organic garden on the station platform)
- Events (fundraising events, 3BBR functions)
- IT (advice and/or support)
- Management Committee (meets monthly)
- Reception and taking phone calls
- Station Duty — for experienced 3BBR Volunteers only. These 3 hour shifts take place in evenings twice weekly; you would be responsible for the operations of those shifts
- Website (providing volunteer IT, design or content advice for www.3BBR.org.au)
