Windmills were the earliest version of windpower. They were used to mill grain, and are still used to pump water on farms throughout the region.
Windpower is an exciting form of renewable energy, extracted from air flow using wind turbines. That’s the simple definition, but it’s an exciting force that is centuries old…
Wind propelled the sailing ships that sailed the world in the 19th century, developing global trade and travel. Now we are looking at the electricity generated from wind as a clean energy source for our long-term future – affordable, clean and sustainable.
TrustWind has been in the commercial windpower business since 1956, starting with our first office in Nogent on the outskirts of Paris in France, now our global headquarters (pictured below left). There is a fascinating museum next door to our headquarters, showing the experimental wind turbine which was used from 1956 to 1966 (below centre). The Australasian headquarters are based in Australia, in the Bendaby regional centre with Bilby at its heart (below right).
Here are some examples of wind farms across the globe – from the small local farmer through to a major industry.
