Deakin’s Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus is home to a new cutting-edge interactive learning precinct ‘Nyaal’, opened in 2021.
Called Nyaal, a Wadawurrung word meaning ‘to open your eyes’, the highly interactive and technology rich facility at Deakin’s Waurn Ponds campus will allow students to respond to and learn from a range of changeable environments, conditions and scenarios throughout the course of their studies.
The Nyaal precinct brings together creativity, digital innovation and world-class teaching methodologies to create immersive learning experiences that engage and inspire. The precinct includes a 360 theatre to showcase immersive experiences; a circular think tank for collaboration, deliberation and problem-solving; and a flexible learning and event space. Students enter the theatre and are immediately immersed into a new environment through high quality visual and audio simulations. Nyaal will give trainee teachers experience of classrooms, before they head out into the professional world.
