NAIDOC Week at Deakin

 

NIKERI Institute, in partnership with the Office of Indigenous Strategy & Innovation at Deakin University, held a four and a half hour live virtual event in honour of NAIDOC Week 2029, celebrating the importance of First Nations Knowledge, Voice and Storytelling. Broadcast out of Deakin Edge at Fed Square the event featured live art panel discussions, yarning sessions with prominent First Nations Peoples and a live cross to Broome Senior High School. 

The 2020 NAIDOC Week theme, Always Was: Always Will Be, recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years.

Join our hosts, Tom Molyneux and Kiri Wicks from Deakin University streamed live from Deakin Edge, sharing the stage with guests including two incredible Aboriginal artists, Morgs and Thelma Beeton from The Torch.

These artists completed artworks from start-to-finish over the course of the day, while the hosts chatted throughout the day with inspirational speakers and special guests who shared their own work and personal stories connecting to the NAIDOC Week theme.
