The 7th to the 11th of November 2022 saw NIKERI Institute host our first Indigenous Direct Admission Program (IDAP) since 2019. IDAP is part of the Testing and Assessment initiative through Away From Base (AFB) Funding, which is a pathway to determine eligibility for enrolment in one of Deakin University’s course programs that are delivered in our culturally-contextualised space at NIKERI Institute. During the one-week period, professional and academic staff worked with applicants to enhance their capacities to study and understand the expectations of university.
The sessions and activities held throughout the week included academic support sessions, introductions to their chosen degrees, Waurn Ponds campus library tour, essay writing workshops and interviews. Other activities included a visit to Bells beach, Narana Cultural Centre, weaving, Yarning circle, and Social and Emotional Well-being sessions.
The program gave the participants a great insight into study at NIKERI Institute and we were thrilled that 100% of IDAP participants are now enrolled students.
