Deakin University honoured NIKERI Institute Advisory Board member and VAEAI General Manager, Uncle Lionel Bamblett for his lifetime of dedication and commitment to Koorie Education with an Honorary Doctorate at the recent graduation ceremonies.
Wiradjuri/Yorta Yorta/Bangerang man, Lionel has worked at VAEAI for over 40 years. VAEAI is a community-controlled Aboriginal organisation that exists to create education pathways for Koorie students and believes education is a lifelong journey. They provide support to students from early years through primary, secondary, post-graduate study, training, and adult learning.
Uncle Lionel was instrumental in the development of NIKERI Institute (formally Koorie Teacher Education Program and Institute of Koorie Education) and we are fortunate to still benefit from his passion for education through our advisory board.
