The NIKERI Institute – Deakin University were honoured to sponsor the annual Geelong Aboriginal Jobs Expo held at GMHBA Stadium last week.

Running for its second year, the expo was filled with First Nations organisations, educational institutions, and industry leaders all showcasing their part in supporting First Nations jobs and pathways. Amongst the stalls, there was plenty to do, from listening to experienced panellists, having a tour of the GMHBA Stadium, getting hyped from the Indigenous Hip Hop Outreach Project, or falling into song with Ngara McEwan. NIKERI had a chance to advertise our upcoming IDAP week during an interview with Blak Brews Founder Troy who was the MC of the event, hyping the crowd with his electric energy and treating them to prizes.

It was great to see students who had previously visited NIKERI and so many Community members participating on the day, seeking pathways and exploring employment avenues to help enter or re-enter the world of work and grow their future to the fullest. A special thankyou to Wathaurong Aboriginal Cooperative, Kardinia Park, and other event sponsors and participants for making the day as deadly as it was.
