A dream which found its place to nurture: Deakin – an absolutely enriching experience

We are so proud to be ‘Deakinites’, it feels great! We hail from the country with one of the most exotic cultures and traditions: India. Initially, pursuing higher studies in another country was a far-off dream but with the immense support and constant encouragement from our family, we got the courage to make it happen.

After receiving our offer letters from the Deakin University we were doubly elated. Firstly, because we both got into the same university and secondly because we were accepted into the same course, Masters of Information Technology (Professional). The course which could provide us the key to opportunities. It was indeed an overwhelming feeling and a proud moment in our lives.

We started our journey at Deakin in the year 2015. Being an international student, we had both inhibitions and excitement but, we felt the warmth and support as ‘one’ from our initial days at the university. With an excellent faculty and course structure we have had an amazing journey during our study period. Throughout our course, the guidance from our lecturers and friends has helped us to be more affirmative on the choices we made.

Two years of the Masters passed by with lots of dedication and effort from getting a scholarship to scoring distinction. The joy multiplies when the faculty knows our name and we are fondly known as ‘THE TWINS’ – Neha

With the immense facilities and services provided on-campus from accommodation, medicals to 24/7 access to computer labs. It made it so much easier for us to complete our assignments, prepare for the presentations, and gear up for the exams. For most of our friends and us, the computer lab was our second home for our late night group discussions and group assignments. The number of food outlets and café corners made it convenient for quick meals or snacks in the hustle and bustle of University life.

The best part of Deakin University which I admire the most is the recognition and appreciation of student’s hard work both academically and socially. I was nervous and delighted to be recognised amongst the top 15% of the University and was awarded by Golden Key International Honour Society. – Nisha

We have represented Deakin as student ambassadors for the Young ICT Explorers event held on campus. It was flabbergasting to see school kids coming up with innovative projects to aid noble causes. It was a great initiative by Digital Careers and Deakin University to nurture such amazing zealous talents.

We have worked as Peer Support Network Leaders which gave us the opportunity to contribute back to the University by providing guidance, support, and encouragement to new students to help them adapt and feel at ease in new environment. Passing on the same warmth and support we received throughout our journey.

Here, we have not just had academic excellence but we have been involved with many on-campus activities which helped us build leadership and professional development skills. Interacting with students from varied walks of life has broadened our perspective positively. From the school days to post-graduation, we twins have come a long way and thrive to do our best in future endeavours too. We are really grateful for all the opportunities that came our way and made University life worthwhile.
