Showcasing Creative Arts Graduates in Norway

Glenn Karlsen fills a room, through sheer personality and a sizeable mop of curly brown hair.

Glenn is a Deakin graduate, completing his Bachelor of Visual Communication Design in 2013, following a one year pathway diploma from Noroff, Norway.  He is currently freelancing in Graphic Design and tutoring Noroff students.

We met recently at Noroff’s Oslo campus for International Week, while tucking into some tasty Norwegian salmon rolls. Over lunch, we talked about his two years at Deakin, the academic highlights, trials and tribulations of a long-distance relationship, AFL, and life in a share house with Aussies, among other things. Glenn spoke positively of his experience at Deakin, and in particular, his appreciation for the academic staff in Visual Communication disciplines.

“Being able to learn from and work with people like Alison Bennett was incredible. Her photography is amazing, and her exhibition at the Deakin Gallery was incredible. I also really enjoyed the units taught by Joel Zika and Adrian Bruch, they were really fantastic.”

With a strong practical grounding in Graphic Design from his time at Noroff, combined with the development of theoretical knowledge and a honing of practical skills across Photography, Graphic Art, Film, and Design, Glenn’s online portfolio really demonstrates the breadth of his talent and his exposure to a rich array of visual communication design techniques and principles throughout his education. Glenn’s work can be viewed on Behance and his website http://curlyfied.com.

Deakin has a long-standing partnership with Noroff and has collectively produced some great talent across the Creative Arts. Noroff International Week was held last week for partner universities across the globe to promote undergraduate and postgraduate opportunities for Noroff students.

Information for Noroff students can be found here. For more information on the partnership, please contact the Faculty of Arts and Education International and Partnerships Manager, Michael Knopp.
