Deakin is currently building its profile for research excellence in Australian literature. This involves the role of literature in reinforcing communities. Areas of focus are on:

  • short fiction & their markets
  • reading regional literatures & narratives of place
  • histories and pedagogies of poetry
  • the sacred
  • digital literatures
  • individual writers: Tim Winton, Gerard Murnane
