Cristina Santa-Isabel

Cristina’s thesis is about personhood in Tolkien’s works. Developing a framework of personhood, which moves beyond the dominant classical humanist framework used in Tolkien scholarship, is more inclusive, particularly with the various entities of Tolkien’s Middle-earth. An entity cannot be described as having ‘humanity’ if they are not a biological human. The framework of Personhood Cristina’s thesis will be employing does not consider an entity’s race or species. Therefore, Cristina’s thesis will examine if personhood may be applied to the various entities of Middle-earth.
