A heated swimming pool, provided largely as a result of the efforts of the ‘Allambie’ Occupational Auxiliary, came into use. (This became a fully enclosed facility in 1971)
At this time, Allambie was described as the ‘… main reception, treatment, calssification and transit centre… and has accommodation for approximately 170 children – girls up to 14 and boys up to 10.’ It was one of 4 reception centres in the State, the others being Baltara in Parkville, Warrawee in Ballarat, and Miralee at Mildura. There were also 6 children’s homes and another 12 family group homes.
