Sian Mitchell

Sian Mitchell is a Lecturer in Screen and Design at Deakin University where she revels in the opportunity to work with the next generation of screen storytellers and creative practitioners. Her work also extends to practice-based film programming and curatorial projects, particularly through her role as Festival Director of the Melbourne Women in Film Festival, an annual festival celebrating and supporting Australian women screen creatives and their work. Sian has a PhD in film studies and a Masters in Cultural Heritage and Museum Studies and her research in areas of Australian and women’s screen practice has been published in journals and industry blogs, including Camera Obscura, Historic Environment, Peephole Journal, NFSA, and the AFI Research Collection. Sian has worked as a consulting curator on the heritage web application, ‘Past Port’ – a history of Port Melbourne, and as a special research project intern at the National Film and Sound Archive. She also sits on the Board of Alliance Française de Melbourne and is a member of the International Advisory Committee for the Seoul International Women’s Film Festival. Most of all, Sian loves finding and sharing incredible stories made for the screen with others.
