Inclusive Health Communication in SDA: Group Home Tours and Case Studies

Our research is exploring how Group Home residents and staff learn and communicate about COVID-19 and other infectious disease outbreaks. This part of the study involves video observations in Group Homes. We will use the observation results to make future research surveys. The observation results will also help us to create new resources for Group Homes about COVID-19 and other infection outbreaks.

We are seeking group homes that are located near Sydney, Melbourne, or Geelong for this research.

What does this research involve?

The observational case study involves two activities:

  1. A support worker or house manager will record a tour of the group home.
  2. The research team will view some of the case files from the residents at the Group Home. We will look at the types of activities and communications that happened in 2019 (before COVID-19) and compare it to what has happened  during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We will use the tour and the case notes to understand what changes have happened in the home due to COVID-19, and what health communication is available. We will not record any names of residents, staff, or other private information.
