Inclusive Health Communication in SDA: Delphi Surveys

This page is about the Delphi study for our research on Inclusive Health Communication in Specialist Disability Accommodation (Group Home) settings.

What is a Delphi study?

In a Delphi study, researchers survey a large number of ‘experts’ to gain their consensus (agreement) on important issues. This usually requires the experts to complete several surveys over a few months. For each survey, the experts are shown statements and will be asked how strongly they agree or disagree. The statements are adjusted with each survey, until most of the experts agree, and the findings can be shared with the community.

How are we using the Delphi method?

Our Delphi study will involve representatives from Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) services and disability advocacy organisations. The aim is to establish a consensus (agreement) around the most important health communication priorities for SDA settings, and recommended practices for inclusive communication in SDA.

The Delphi surveys will be based on the concerns and strategies that residents and support workers have told us about in their interviews. The study will help us to answer the question: “What are the most effective practices to improve communication about COVID-19 other public health emergencies in group home settings?” Having a Delphi survey means that SDA providers, family members and advocates have an opportunity to share their own views on this important topic. The final outcome of this Delphi study will be an agreed set of priorities and practice guidelines for public health communication in SDA settings.
