Liaison Librarians can provide you with an overview of library services, and specialised help finding resources for your subject. Allocated to each faculty, and DUELI, IKE and Deakin College, liaison librarians offer personalised support for groups and individuals. They can provide tailored and embedded teaching support for your discipline area to enhance students’ digital literacy skills.

Learning and teaching librarians work with Liaison Librarians to develop cloud concepts and learning activities that evidence digital literacy in unit and course programs.

Research librarians provide high-level support for Deakin's research community, including training and support of HDR students.

Library tutorial sessions

Library sessions can be conducted within a class, or via Skype or Blackboard Collaborate and can range from a 10 minute introduction up to an hour presentation. Topics covered include:

• planning and conducting searches on a variety of information resources
• evaluation of information
• advanced searching for literature reviews
• Endnote.

These sessions can be tailored to help students prepare for an upcoming assessment task.

Liaison Librarians can also be involved in 'Ask your librarian' discussion threads in unit sites to respond to student queries on researching.

• There is a range of videos that can be embedded into unit sites to support students’ with finding, accessing and evaluating information sources. Videos can be accessed from the Deakin Library Playlist.
• Refer your students to library help and skills for study pages, which include: study guidance, planning your search, resource guides, FAQs, referencing, study support, evaluating sources.

• A schedule for library orientation tours and UniStart—Discover Your Library sessions is developed each trimester and disseminated to students via the orientation itinerary. The itinerary is typically released to student cohorts one week prior to orientation week.
• UniStart—Discover Your Library sessions introduce new students to the library and how to locate information sources via the library tile in Deakin Sync. These run for approximately 20 – 30 minutes. Campus Library Tours run for approximately 20 minutes.

• Digital Literacy offers a suite of resources to build and assess students’ proficiency in digital literacy. Incorporate these into your teaching materials and scaffolded learning activities.

• Streaming videos provides information about: video collections, linking and embedding videos, Deakin referencing, attribution and citation.
• Deakin Digital Asset Bank holds over 7,000 images and other digital assets including images (study, campuses and facilities, research, events, Deakin International and branding), as well as Indesign, Powerpoint and Word templates.
• Image resources instructs how to access and use images, and includes A-Z of image collections.

• Familiarise yourself with the university's accessibility software.
• For equipment and assistive technology you can use or borrow, check your campus library. The range of equipment varies between campuses.
• Students wishing to use the assistive technology room at your campus library should ask at the Service Desk.
