The corrosion group aims to replace toxic corrosion inhibitors with environmentally friendly lanthanide organic compounds. The current focus is to work with industry to identify inhibitor systems that can combat microbiologically influenced corrosion in marine environments.
Our work has dated back several years, working with DST Group and CSIRO to inhibit corrosion of steel (mild and high strength) as well as aerospace aluminium alloys.
Additionally we have undertaken projects exploring the corrosion properties of zinc-rich galvanised coatings on steel wire and provided consulting services on failure mechanisms of heat exchanger plates.
