Laura Garcia Quintana

PhD Candidate

¡Hola! My name is Laura and I am currently a PhD student in the Institute for Frontier Materials, under the supervision on Dr. Cristina Pozo-Gonzalo, Professor Patrick Howlett and Professor Alan Bond. I studied Chemistry and a Masters in Chemical Science and Technology (major in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology), both at the University Complutense of Madrid (Spain).

My research focuses on Na-air batteries from a fundamental point of view. For my work we chose different kinds of ionic liquids (ILs) as electrolytes and investigate the impact of the nature of those ILs, with and without sodium salts dissolved, in the oxygen reduction reaction mechanism to develop optimal Na-air batteries. Additionally, I also include an organic solvent in the electrolyte to improve the electrolyte properties, understanding the key factors that will let us enhance the battery performance. This will let us tune the electrolyte composition to achieve the optimal conditions for the battery.

But not everything is working and studying! I also like reading, dancing, travelling and any kind of outdoors, always better with my friends of course.
