Dr. Faezeh Makhlooghiazad and Dr. Timothy Khoo led an interactive, engaging outreach program with Camberwell High School’s Year 9 STEM class and IFM researchers on the 30th of November. In the session, IFM’s scientists outlined the main concepts of electrochemistry, battery components and advanced materials and techniques for battery applications and corrosion inhibition.

The researchers presented their research in simple, tangible ways so students had a clearer understanding of the science behind their research. This program was very important for students to appreciate the significance of the scientists’ research for sustainability and society.

The program started with an inspirational presentation by Professor Maria Forsyth and followed with talks by Ms Shanika Abeysooriya, Ms Nandita Sirigiri, Ms Shammi Akhtar Ferdousi, Dr Hiroyuki Ueda, Mr Mahdi Ghorbani Mousaabadi and Dr Minkyung Kang. IFM’s scientists also shared a published paper of their research with the students to read.

There was another session on the 2nd of December that provided an opportunity for the students to interact with the scientists and ask questions about the paper, application of the research, their educational pathways, how to build collaboration and much more.
