Professional Education Symposium

Old, new and emerging ethical dilemmas in donation and transplantation: An educational symposium for health professionals, policy makers and community leaders

The Symposium will bring together international and Australian experts in the ethics of organ and tissue transplantation and donation to present a series of 20 minute talks addressing persisting, novel and emerging issues in the field. Participants in the Symposium will have the opportunity to ask questions and join in discussion of these issues, enhancing their knowledge and informing their current work as health professionals, hospital administrators, health policy makers or public advocates.

The topics on the program have been chosen in the light of a recent international survey of transplant professionals which identified current ethical issues in clinical practice, including in Australia and New Zealand, and through discussions with Victorian health policy makers and the Australian Organ and Tissue Authority.

Each 20 minute talk will address specific learning objectives, and be followed by 10 minutes of question time. Participants will receive a certificate of attendance. Participants will have the option of completing a Multiple Choice Question test assessing their knowledge of the issues covered during the Symposium. Those who complete the test satisfactorily will be issued a certificate of successful completion.
