The gift of education

Molly Ough

George Alexander Foundation Scholarship (GAF) 2019
Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Midwifery

Molly Ough is passionate about improving access to healthcare and providing quality patient care to all.  During a volunteer experience to East Timor in 2017 with a non-profit community development organisation, The Good Crocodile Foundation, Molly was inspired by the community’s strengths based approach to “help talented young people make the most of their potential”.

As a recipient of the GAF Scholarship Molly hopes to reflect George’s determination and love for learning in the workforce and beyond and ultimately wants to ‘pay it forward’ by giving back to the community.

Lauren Hustwaite

Bendigo Bank Community Scholarship 2016
den Hollander Scholarship 2019
Bachelor of Social Work

A horticulturalist by trade, Lauren Hustwaite swapped her garden trowel for textbooks three years ago to pursue a life-long goal of studying a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. Lauren, inspired by the female leadership at Deakin, has taken on several representative roles including Vice-President and President of Deakin University Student Association (DUSA), Geelong Campus Coordinator, and elected Student Member for University Council.

Receiving two significant scholarships is a welcome ‘vote of confidence’ for Lauren whose passion for social justice, advocacy and equity will see her make a difference in people’s lives in the future.

Paulina & Antonia Erceg

Paulina – AusNet Services Women in Engineering Scholarship 2018; Bachelor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Honours)

Antonia – Barwon Water Scholarship & Christopher Morton Memorial Scholarship 2017; Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours)

Engineering is unrecognised as a gender-diverse profession, with females still underrepresented in industry. The Erceg sisters, Paulina and Antonia are fierce champions in the STEM space with bold plans to broaden the diversity picture, drive innovation and strengthen engineering talent for the future.

Paulina and Antonia feel ‘empowered to have the opportunity to study engineering’ with the support of a donor-funded scholarship from Deakin.
