Try two iconic Aussie experiences with International Student Connect

Studying in Australia is about more than lectures and assignments – it’s also about trying new things, meeting new people and making memories you’ll talk about long after graduation.

This trimester, International Student Connect is giving you the chance to do exactly that with free events designed especially for new international students. Whether you’ve always wanted to feel more confident around the water or you’re curious about Australia’s favourite sport, we’ve got you covered.

Build confidence in the water with free swimming lessons

Australia is famous for its beaches, pools and outdoor lifestyle, but spending time around water can be intimidating if you didn’t grow up swimming.

Our free Learn to Swim program is designed for beginners and will help you develop practical swimming and water safety skills in a fun, supportive environment. You’ll be guided by qualified instructors and learn alongside other international students, so there’s no pressure and plenty of encouragement. Attend one session to learn the basics or join all three to build your skills and confidence over time.

By the end of the program, you’ll feel more confident enjoying one of Australia’s most loved pastimes while making new friends along the way.

Experience footy like a local

You’ve probably seen everyone wearing team colours, heard people talking about “the footy” or wondered what all the excitement is about. Now’s your chance to find out.

Join us for our annual AFL Clinic, where you’ll head to GMHBA Stadium to learn the basics of Australian Rules Football with coaches from the Geelong Cats. You’ll practise skills like kicking, handballing and marking, tour the stadium and experience one of Australia’s biggest sporting traditions firsthand.

Getting there is easy – you can make your own way to the stadium, or hop on one of our free buses departing from the Burwood or Waurn Ponds campuses.
