Save your fuel! Here’s other budget-friendly ways to get to campus
Have you figured out how you’ll travel to campus for Trimester 2/Semester 2?
If you’re trying to keep your fuel and parking costs down, there’s many convenient transport options available that will help your budget, help to make our campuses more sustainable, and save you lots of time and hassle. You’ll also enjoy added benefits like more incidental physical activity and extra time to read, listen to music or just unwind.
Here are some ways to ditch the car and still make it to class!
Public transport
- It’s easiest to get a tram or bus to Burwood but you can also get a train to Box Hill Station and catch a connecting bus from there.
- Both our Geelong campuses are conveniently located near train or bus stops.
- At Warrnambool, buses stop right in Cafeteria Lane, while Sherwood Park Railway Station is on the edge of campus.
- The GIFT City Metro station connects the campus to downtown Ahmedabad. View the metro timetable. If you’d like to take the bus, Aspire 3 is the closest stop to GIFT City Campus. The first bus leaves Sarkhej at 7.45am and the last bus leaves GIFT City at 6.15pm. View the GSRTC Bus timetable.

Try our FREE Geelong intercampus buses
Deakin operates two dedicated bus services for our Geelong campuses, Monday to Friday – and they’re completely FREE! Wi-fi is available on both services, so you can scroll your news feed or study while you travel.
- The Intercampus Bus is a shuttle service between the Waterfront and Waurn Ponds campuses. It incorporates a park-and-ride service from the Barwon Valley Activity Centre opposite Kmart Belmont, where free parking is available. You can also park your car for free at Waurn Ponds (use the blue bays in the Park and Go section of Car Park 3) and continue on the bus to the Waterfront. See the full timetable and stop locations.
- The Try Boys/Waterfront Bus departs from the Try Boys Basketball Stadium at 501 Ryrie St, East Geelong (near the corner of Portarlington and Boundary Roads), where you can park your car for free. The bus departs from that location and travels directly to the Waterfront Campus. The service operates Monday to Friday, excluding University holidays. Please note, there is a gap period in the middle of the day where the service does not operate. See the full timetable.
Active transport
Our campuses are best experienced on foot or two wheels, so walk or ride if you live close to campus. We have showers, change rooms, lockers and bike hubs available on all campuses.

If these other transport options don’t suit your circumstances, parking is available at all our campuses, including accessible parking:
- Burwood: all parking at Burwood is paid permit parking.
- Waurn Ponds: there’s paid permit parking, along with limited free parking in the blue Park and Go bays in Car Park 3, which connect to the intercampus bus. Please note there are current road works and road closures across the Waurn Ponds Campus, so check details and leave extra time for your trip if necessary.
- Waterfront: all parking at Waterfront is paid permit parking. The Multideck Carpark at Waterfront Campus is accessible from Smythe Street (positioned between Smythe Street and Brougham Street, next to Waterfront Student Accommodation). The car park has electric vehicle charging stations and the gym.
- Warrnambool: you can park for free in any of the white bays.
- GIFT City: Car parking is available for personal transportation – car or scooter – at the entry, as are charging points for electric vehicles. View the campus map to see parking locations. No permit is required for students. It is first come/first served for spaces.
