DUSA OFest starts next week–new friends and new experiences
Are you new to Deakin this year? Or are you a returning student who can’t wait to launch back into campus life? Then make sure you check out OFest,!
Hosted by the DUSA (Deakin University Student Association), OFest runs from 29 June–10 July and is jam packed with on- and off-campus social, sport and festival activities to get you settled in.
There’s lots to see and do, read our top tips for making the most of OFest.
Be yourself
We know it can be scary chatting to someone you don’t know (yet!) but don’t worry, lots of people go to uni not knowing anyone else and they’re all waiting for someone to say hi. ![]()
That’s why we recommend attending lots of events, online and on campus!
Deakin students come from all walks of life – different ages, backgrounds and interests, and that’s what makes our community so special. So just be yourself! Get involved in things you enjoy, meet people with similar interests, or maybe connect with those who are completely different to you.
Be open to trying new things and meeting new people. Remember, most other students will be in the same boat as you, so just be yourself!
Jump in
Check out the DUSA Clubs on Market Day – we’ve heard it’s a great way to meet people who match your vibe! There are 100’s of DUSA Clubs, so there’s sure to be one for you. Check them out on campus at the Clubs Showcase and Market Days.
Prefer something a bit quieter? We have a low sensory experience at our Waurn Ponds and Waterfront Market Day and at the Burwood Campus Club Showcase, to provide a calmer, less overwhelming experience. We’ll dim the lights, clear the walkways and lower the noise levels with no music and no MC. Fidget spinners and snacks will also be available.
If you’re studying in Geelong or Warrnambool, come along to the Welcome Lunch on your campus, for a relaxed afternoon of live music and FREE lunch. Or, join us off campus for a Mixer and Trivia night. Tickets are free, but you must book a ticket.
You’re not alone
Settling in takes time. The first few weeks of uni can be overwhelming, but you aren’t alone. Help is available if you need it so don’t be afraid to reach out. Approach a friendly DUSA Crew member at OFest, drop by on campus or get in touch online.
Meet the DUSA Crew
Attend the ‘Get to know DUSA‘, online session to find out all about us. We are a great group of students with one aim in mind – to support all students throughout their entire time as a Deakin student. Hey and we’re heaps of fun too! Grab a DUSA membership to get loads of discounts and exclusive member giveaways.
Become a volunteer with the DUSA Crew, it’s a great way to get involved, meet new friends and enhance your university experience. Together we are friends and a DUSA family, who support each other whilst helping to run the best events ever!
It is okay if you don’t meet your new best friends straight away, OFest goes for two weeks, so there are lots of opportunities to meet people. We also run sport, social and learning experiences throughout the year, we’d love to have you join us.
